A quick drive from Boro Park brings you straight to Grand Army Plaza -whether you’re heading into Crown Heights, passing through Park Slope, or just cutting across Brooklyn.
According to city data, more than 60 crashes were reported at Grand Army Plaza in 2025, leaving at least 65 people injured. The area sees constant traffic from multiple directions, making for a confusing and often risky intersection.
The layout of the plaza is a big part of the issue. Multiple lanes merge from different directions and signals can be difficult to follow. Drivers often find themselves switching lanes suddenly, while pedestrians and cyclists try to cross wide stretches of road with cars coming from several angles at once.
There are now advocacy groups pushing for possible changes, including traffic calming measures, clearer crossings, and adjusted signal timing to make the area safer and more organized.
City officials say plans are being worked on, with more details expected in the coming months.
In the meantime, for the many Boro Park residents who regularly pass through the area, Grand Army Plaza remains a spot where extra caution is needed.
