The city is redesigning Grand Army Plaza
Mayor Mamdani has backed the redesign that will close the road between the Arch and Prospect Park and connect them into one continuous pedestrian plaza. NYC DOT is finalizing the design now.
The community has spoken — repeatedly. In DOT's survey of 2,077 people, 78% said creating protected pedestrian space should be the top priority. At the public workshop, 88% of attendees supported significant redesign. In the 2024 follow-up, 86% of 1,624 respondents chose the unified pedestrian plaza. Read the survey →
