About

This world was designed by a local 10-year-old, imagining what the future redesigned Grand Army Plaza might look like — with an expanded pedestrian area, reworked road layout, lots of villagers to keep things lively, and plenty of Minecraft surprises. Keep an eye out for the mayor! Here's what he said:

Hi there! I'm Josie, a 5th grader growing up in Park Slope. Grand Army Plaza is a huge part of my life, whether it's a dog walk or a weekend trip to the green market. If you've been to Grand Army before, you know its beauty is often ruined by cars blocking the crosswalks and drivers honking. My dream would be for Grand Army Plaza to be car-free. Put the arch back in the park!

I built the Minecraft world because I thought that people should be able to see what Grand Army Plaza could look like car-free!

— Josie, world creator

The surrounding neighborhood was built at 1:1 scale from real geodata: streets and parks from OpenStreetMap, building footprints from NYC Open Data, and terrain elevation from USGS 3DEP. Mods like WorldEdit helped with construction. More behind-the-scenes info to come!

About the Project

This server is part of the Grand Army Plaza redesign campaign — a proposal to unite Prospect Park and the Arch into one grand, car-free civic space. The Minecraft world lets you walk through the proposal and experience what pedestrianization could feel like at human scale.
