Design Updates
The plan has been refined based on feedback from 1,624 survey respondents (86% chose Option B). Seven numbered changes are mapped on the right — new crossings to Bailey Fountain, shortened crossings at Flatbush and Vanderbilt, a parking-protected bike lane on Plaza Street, and more.
Three Plaza Concepts
DOT is presenting three design directions for the new pedestrian space: Radial (modern, open, flexible), Diagonal Grove (consistent tree canopy), and Open Axis (historic character, large events). Each includes seating, landscaping, and programmable space.
Operations + Outcomes
The numbers. Crosswalks drop from 24 to 12. Intersections from 11 to 3. B41 rider delay decreases 41%. Vanderbilt/Flatbush travel time to Eastern Parkway decreases 45%. Pedestrians can cross from the library to the plaza in a single signal phase.
Existing vs. Proposed
Side-by-side comparison of the current layout and the proposed design. The southern roadway between the Arch and Prospect Park is replaced with pedestrian space.
